Ashe Breezes By Falmouth's Bats

Call this one the antithesis of game one.

After an earlier season, extra-innings defensive meltdown on the road versus the archrival Falmouth in April, Barnstable made quick business of visiting Falmouth Friday (May 9) in Hyannis with a 6-0 shutout.

Senior righty Riley Ashe - who started the last time versus Falmouth - tossed five shutout innings for the win, with senior southpaw Chris Fowler closing things out in the 6th and 7th frames. Ashe allowed five hits, walked none and struck out six batters for the win. Fowler tossed two perfect innings, not allowing a baserunner and striking out three.

Senior Hayden Murphy and sophomore Griffin Burke gave the Red & White all they would need in the bottom of the first inning when Murphy led off by reaching second on two infield errors, stole third base standing up and then scored on Burke's sacrifice fly to center. Burke would have two sacrifice flies on the day, go 1-1 at the plate and drive in three runs.

Senior rightfielder Micah Gregory went 2-2 and senior shortstop Derek Estes went 1-2 with a double. Murphy went 1-3 to round out Barnstable's hitting output. The Red Raiders collected just five hits on the afternoon.

Barnstable, now 7-6, heads to Merrill "Red"Wilson Field next Thursday (May 15) to face the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins.
