UPDATE: Barnstable Bridge Work Will Close Part Of Route 149 On Monday

The use of a crane will close Route 149 as MassDOT employees work on the bridge crossing Route 6. What to know ahead of Thursday's work.

Update: Barnstable officials announced on Thursday that the bridge work scheduled on Route 149 has been postponed to Monday, Sept. 22 beginning at 8 p.m. and ending around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Bridge barrier replacement work on Route 149 crossing over Route 6 will close that section of road this week, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said.

On Thursday, MassDOT officials will set up a crane on Route 149, which will require a full closure of the roadway over the bridge. Route 149 will be closed on both sides of the bridge, and there will be no access from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

If more work is needed, or if work is postponed on Thursday, Monday, Sept. 26 has been established as a day for additional work.

Detour for 149 Northbound Traffic

  1. Take second exit on roundabout to service Road East
  2. Follow Service Road to the intersection of Oak Street
  3. Turn left on to Oak Street, follow to the end, turn left onto Iyannough Road
  4. At stop sign turn left onto Main Street follow to Parker Road, turn left on to Parker Road
  5. Follow Parker Road, take slight right turn onto Church Street
  6. Follow Church Street to end turn left onto Meeting House Way, straight to bridge.

Detour for 149 Southbound Traffic

  1. From Meeting House Way turn left onto Church Street
  2. Slight left on to Parker Road, follow Parker Road to Main Street
  3. Turn right onto Main Street, follow Main Street to the intersection of Main Street and Iyannough Road
  4. Turn right on to Iyannough Road, then take next right onto Oak Street
  5. Follow Oak Street to the intersection of Oak Street and Service Road
  6. Turn right on to Service Road, follow Service Road to the Roundabout at Route 149.
