Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Grant Will Support Addiction Recovery

BOURNE, MA— The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is getting a major boost in its efforts to help those dealing with Opioid Use Disorder during and post-incarceration. The sheriff's office has been awarded $3.75 million over the next five years from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, according to a news release.

With the new funding, coaches can build connections with inmates while they are incarcerated. Another benefit of the funding is that support and counseling for those who receive coaching will continue after they are released.

Services at the Bridge Center, a re-entry center in Barnstable Village, are also expected to improve. For Sheriff Donna D. Buckley, ensuring that recovery continues beyond the jail door is critical.

“Recovery cannot stop at the jail door,” Buckley said in a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. “It is critical that individuals receive the support, connections, and resources they need while in custody to prepare for a successful transition back into the community—and that those supports continue after release.
