Barnstable Couple Charged With Gunrunning

Jo Ann Baker and Mark Griswold, of Barnstable, allegedly trafficked guns, including an AR-15 assault rifle.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable couple were recently arrested on charges they illegally trafficked multiple guns, including an AR-15 assault rifle, police said. Jo Ann Baker, 51, of Centerville, and Mark Griswold, 46, of Hyannis, were charged with a host of crimes.

Barnstable police said they launched an investigation in January after Quincy police said they arrested a drunk man involved in a shooting in that city. The gun used in the shooting was registered to Baker, who's not allowed to possess guns because she's a convicted felon, according to police.

Police said Baker and Griswold conspired to provide a "friend" with an AR-15 rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, three handguns and dozens of rounds of ammunition. That friend called police after becoming suspicious of the origins of the weapons, police said. Baker and Griswold were arrested March 7.
