BARNSTABLE, MA — Election night was a good night for the Town Council challengers, as Barnstable voters picked them over the incumbent in the two races they faced newcomers. In all, residents selected four new Town Councilors including: Gordon Starr, David Bogan, Tracy Shaughnessy and Kristine Clark, according to unofficial results.Voter turnout was low, as just 12.64 percent of the town's 33,117 registered voters cast a ballot.

There were contested races for Town Council in precincts 1, 5, 9 and 11. Two of those races were open, following the death of Town Council President Jim Crocker and James Tinsley's having served his maximum of six two-year terms.

Crocker's name couldn't be removed from the ballot in Precinct 5 because his name had already been printed on absentee ballots. Any vote for Crocker was considered a tribute vote. He received 42 votes.

Matt Driscoll ran as a write-in candidate in Precinct 5 after Crocker's death, and write-in candidates recieved 136 votes, though unofficial results didn't not specify if all of those votes were for Driscoll.

Races for School Committee and Housing Authority were not contested.
