Barnstable High Opening Food Truck With State Grant

BARNSTABLE, MA — Students in the culinary and hospitality programs at Barnstable High School will get their first chance at running a business thanks to a $60,000 grant from Gov. Charlie Baker's administration.

The grant is part of the latest round of Skills Capital Grants, which gave $14.6 million in awards to 54 educational institutions to update equipment and expand student enrollment in programs that provide career education.

Barnstable High will use the money to enhance its food service and hospitality programs, enabling more students to take part in the program. Specifically, the grant is expected to pay for a school food truck so students can experience what it's like to own and operate a business.

"Students gain practical skills in the culinary arts and hospitality industries, both in high demand in the Cape region," school officials said in a statement. "Students also learn about the tourism and retail industries, along with business, entrepreneurship, and marketing."
