Barnstable Holding Public Forum On Sewer Expansion Project

The 30-year sewer expansion project is being implemented to protect the town's coastal waters, freshwater ponds and drinking water supply.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable is scheduled to start the next phase of its sewer expansion project in April 2022. The next phase of the project is at Route 28 eastbound, and before the construction starts, there will be a public information session this month to keep residents informed.

The public information session is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday and will be available to watch on Zoom, The Town of Barnstable's Facebook page and Channel 18.

The 30-year sewer expansion project is being implemented to protect the town's coastal waters, freshwater ponds and drinking water supply. The first phase of construction began in September on portions of Craigville Beach Road, Strawberry Hill Road, Wequaquet Lane and Phinney's Lane.

Town officials said the Route 28 eastbound portion of the project will allow 90 properties to connect to the municipal sewer system. It also will install critical infrastructure needed to continue construction on the first phase of the project.

This project will expand sewer construction west along Route 28 to the intersection of Route 28 and Phinney’s Lane. The project will install about 8,600 feet of new sewers within Route 28, Phinney’s Lane, and West Main Street. Crews will also construct a new sewer pump station at the town-owned property located at 1456 Falmouth Road (Route 28), and will install approximately 11,600 feet of sewer force mains from the pump station to the Water Pollution Control Facility.
