John Dias, 26, of Barnstable, was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl inside a bathroom at Hamblin Pond Beach.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable man was sentenced Friday to 18-to-20 years in prison after prosecutors said he raped a 13-year-old girl inside a beach bathroom. John Dias, 26, was convicted of aggravated rape of a child with force, kidnapping of a child, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated indecent assault and batter on a child less than 14 and witness intimidation last week in Barnstable Superior Court.

According to prosecutors, Dias entered a bathroom in July 2012 at Hamblin Pond Beach and then raped and assaulted the 13-year-old. Prosecutors said Dias was armed with a knife during the assault.

Dias was already serving an 8-10-10 year sentence for a prior charge and will serve the additional 18-to-20 years on top of it. Following his release, Dias will have to serve probation and register as a sex offender. Terms of probation include staying away from the victim and her family, staying away from children under 16 and remaining drug and alcohol free.
