Barnstable Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heatwave

BARNSTABLE, MA — Temperatures are rising across New England, and Barnstable officials have reacted by opening two cooling centers.

They are:

• Hyannis Youth & Community Center, 141 Bassett Ln., Hyannis
• Hyannis and the Barnstable Adult Community Center, 825 Falmouth Rd., Hyannis

The town also said the Hyannis Youth & Community Center, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, and the Barnstable Adult Community Center, open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, are also open for people to get out of the heat.

Experts recommend staying hydrated, and finding an air-conditioned room out of the sun during this heatwave. Child and pets shouldn't be left unattended in vehicles during this time, they add.
