Barnstable Police Officer Struck By Intoxicated Driver Outside ZZ Top Show: Cops

BARNSTABLE, MA — An Osterville man was charged with driving under the influence after he struck a police officer working outside a ZZ Top concert, police said.

The officer was "standing in a marked crosswalk assisting with pedestrian traffic near the conclusion of a concert at the Cape Cod Melody Tent" and was "wearing a bright-colored, reflective jacket and holding a flashlight while positioned in an illuminated crosswalk equipped with flashing lights" when he was struck shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, the Barnstable Police Department said in a social media post.

Etix.com sold tickets for a Sunday night show at the venue, which the Melody Tent billed as, "The Big One!"

"Barnstable Police Officers and Cape Cod Melody Tent staff immediately began rendering aid to the injured officer," the release said. "Members of the Hyannis Fire Department subsequently arrived and transported the officer to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment."

The driver, 43-year-old Robert Brando-Hunt, was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, operating under the influence of liquor with serious injury and negligence, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the release.
