Barnstable Police Warn Of Email Scam
Barnstable police warned residents of an email scam from hackers claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Police have issued a warning to residents that an email scam from hackers claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service was sent to people across the country. According to the U.S. Postal Service, the scammers sent emails telling recipients about an unsuccessful attempt to deliver a package.
Officials said the email prompts recipients to confirm their personal delivery information by clicking a button or downloading an attachment. Following the prompt can activate malware and steal personal information such as usernames, passwords and finanical information.
Postal Service officials said anyone who receives this email should forward it to spam@uspis.gov and then delete it immediately.
