Barnstable Sheriff's Office Employee On Leave, Faces Assault With Dangerous Weapon Charge

A Barnstable Sheriff's Office employee is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after a traffic stop in Bourne on July 29.

BOURNE, MA — A Barnstable County Sheriff's Office employee is on administrative leave after assault with a dangerous weapon charges were filed against them, sheriff's officials said.

The Sheriff's Office did not release the name of the employee.

At about 2:45 p.m. on July 29, the employee was pulled over by Massachusetts State Police on Route 28 in Bourne after MSP officials received a call from another driver.

The employee was arrested and has since been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and threats to commit a crime.

In addition to the Sheriff's Office placing the employee on leave, the office is also conducting an internal investigation into the matter.
