Barnstable 'Swatting' Call: Man Said He Killed Someone
A man told police he killed someone in an apartment in Hyannis and threatened to shoot any responding officers.

BARNSTABLE, MA – Officers responded to a "swatting" call in Hyannis Tuesday night, according to a statement from the Barnstable Police Department. A man called police around 8:15 p.m. and said he had just killed someone in an apartment on Main Street and threatened to shoot any officers who responded, police said.
Police believed it to be a "swatting" call, a type of prank where someone reports a serious crime to generate a large police response. The calls are typically used to prank an unsuspecting homeowner, according to police.
Officers responded to the area and confirmed the call was fake. Police are investigating its origin.
