Barnstable Uzi Sting: Suspect Gets Prison
Matthew Monroe, of Barnstable, sold an Uzi to an undercover police informant last year, authorities said.

BOSTON, MA – A Barnstable man on Tuesday was sentenced to 2 years in prison after admitting to selling an Uzi to an undercover police informant last year. Matthew Monroe, 27, was sentenced in federal court in Boston. Judge Mark Wolf also sentenced Monroe to 3 years of supervised released.
The illegal gun sale happened March 11, 2016, at a hotel in Hyannis, prosecutors said. (Sign up for free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts from Barnstable Patch.)
"Monroe sold an IMI Uzi Model A, semi-automatic rifle to a cooperating witness for $800 at a hotel in Hyannis," Acting U.S. Attorney William Weinreb said in a statement. "The transaction was recorded by law enforcement."

At the time, Monroe was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a 2013 breaking and entering conviction.
