Barnstable Woman Admits To Fatal Hit And Run: Police

The 33-year-old Centerville resident told police she fled the scene after hitting the 62-year-old man who died Friday night.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The driver of the fatal hit and run Friday night in Centerville has turned herself in. Sarah Hunt, 33, of Centerville, admitted she was driving the Toyota Camry that struck a 62-year-old man and continued driving, Barnstable Police said late Sunday afternoon.

Hunt walked into the Barnstable Police Station around 3 p.m. Saturday, police said. She admitted to driving the car and leaving the scene. Police found the damaged tan 2000 Camry in Hunt's garage.

Hunt was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operations, leaving the scene of an accident after death, and operating a motor vehicle with an open container. She was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned in Barnstable Districty Court Monday.

John Pina, of Centerville, was crossing the street when struck on Route 28 near the Bell Tower Mall. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police Pina was struck by a light brown Toyota sedan driven by a white woman with black hair. She got out and checked on the victim before taking off, according to witnesses.
