Barnstable Woman Sentenced For Fatal Hit-And-Run

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to hitting a Centerville man as he crossed Rt. 28.

BARNSTABLE, MA – A Centerville woman was sentenced Thursday in a fatal hit-and-run death earlier this year. Sarah Hunt, 34, pleaded guilty to charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and leaving the scene of personal injury.

A judge sentenced her to two years in the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, with one year to serve, according to the Cape Cod Times. She also received probation until October 2023 and must turn in her license for 15 years and be evaluated for substance abuse.

Hunt turned herself in one day after police asked for the public's help in identifying the person who fatally struck 62-year-old John Pina, also of Centerville, Jan. 5. She admitted to driving the Toyota Camry that hit Pina as he crossed the street on Rt. 28 near the Bell Tower Mall and fled the scene, police said.
