Beaches Close As More Than A Dozen Sharks Sighted On Cape Cod Tuesday

At least 14 sharks were sighted in waters near Cape Cod and the Islands on Tuesday, and one beach was closed to swimming.

CAPE COD, MA — Shark sightings continue to pile up on Cape Cod as the late summer months continue to be busy for shark activity.

The Sharktivity app reported at least 14 sightings between Cape Cod and the Islands on Tuesday, including on Martha's Vineyard, where South Beach was closed for two hours. According to the app, lifeguards spotted the shark only five to 10 yards offshore.

Head of the Meadow Beach, in Truro, was also closed for an hour after a shark sighting.

In the "tagged sharks with funny names" category, a shark named Fruit Loops was detected around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Sharks named Granese and Ken were also detected at the buoy near Nauset Beach on Tuesday.
