Beaty Calls for Appointment of County Building Planning Committee
COUNTY COMMISSIONER RON BEATY CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE APPOINTMENT OF A COUNTY BUILDING PLANNING AND DESIGN COMMITTEE
Barnstable, Cape Cod, MA: Monday, 02/12/18 - Ron Beaty, Vice Chairman of the Barnstable County Commissioners, today called for the immediate appointment of a County Building Planning and Design Committee.
Beaty said, “Speaking only as one individual County Commissioner, In light of the recent announcement by State Senator Julian Cyr regarding an authorization in the Senate Capital Bond Bill of $6.5 million to construct a new building for the Cape Cod Regional Government and Cape Cod Commission, I strongly advocate the immediate appointment of a seven member Building Planning and Design Committee by the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners.”
Beat continued, “It is my belief that such a Committee should include one or more of the County Commissioners, the County Administrator or his designee, the Acting Director of the Cape Cod Commission or her designer, and as well as others with relevant experience and/or expertise.”

Beaty elaborated, “With the Cape Cod Commission projected to begin making wasteful annual rent payments in excess of $190,000 by the end of this year, it is imperative to get the process moving forward on this matter as soon as possible.”
Beaty said, “Formation of a Building Planning and Design Committee is a logical first step.”

Commissioner Beaty further stated, “The location for construction of any proposed building is still rather speculative, but the most likely venue would be the approximately five acres of County owned land at the intersection of Route 132, Phinney’s Lane, and Attucks Lane in Hyannis.”
“Though still somewhat of an open question, the proposed building will likely House the Cape Cod Commission, as well as Barnstable County administrative offices at some point in the future.” stated Beaty.
Beaty said, “In order to help ensure transparency and accountability during the overall process of constructing a new facility for Barnstable County and the Cape Cod Commission, I would like to be part of the the Committee in question.”
Beaty finally said, “To protect the public interest, a government watchdog of one type or another is always a good idea, especially when millions of taxpayers’ dollars, and a well known regional bureaucracy like the Cape Cod Commission are involved.”
