The longtime schoolteacher and Cape Cod native was one of four people struck in Venice, FL last week.

HARWICH, MA – A Cape Cod native and longtime schoolteacher died from his injuries after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Florida last week. William "Jack" Harrison, 68, was one of four cyclists switching lanes when they were struck from behind by 91-year-old Marion Kahler in Venice, FL Oct. 30.

Harrison split his time between West Harwich and Englewood, FL, often migrating south during the colder months. He taught English at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School for 35 years and was well-known in the community as a renaissance man who liked staying active, reading and writing poetry, according to the Cape Cod Times.

In an interview with the Times, Harrison's friend described him as a "wildly decent human being" who was "talented, interested, and an incredible athlete."
