Bike Safety Fair a fun event for all!

HYANNIS – ELROY T. ELK GREETS KIDS AS THEY ARRIVE TO PARTICIPATE IN BIKE FAIR!

The Hyannis Elks Lodge hosted their annual Kid’s Bicycle Safety Fair this past weekend, at the Youth & Community Center in Hyannis. With the help of many, the event was a fun afternoon for the kids who attended! The Barnstable Police Departments’ Bicycle Patrol Officers conducted a Bike Rodeo which helped to teach the kids bike riding skills and rules of the road. Because of an Elks National Foundation Promise Grant, the Elks were able to give away 8 brand new bicycles, 8 HYCC annual memberships, free bike helmets as well as free bike accessories for all who participated. “Elroy the Elk“, the mascot for the Elks Drug Awareness Program, was there to encourage the children to find healthy ways to spend their time.  Sea Sports sent one of their employees to make sure their helmets were properly fitted and did minor bike adjustments so the kids were safe to ride in the rodeo. New York Life was also at the event, providing a free Child ID kit and the Cape Cod Child Passenger Safety Program did free car seat inspections and installations. “We love seeing the kids have fun and it’s a great way to get the kids involved in healthy activities. The Elks really do care about their neighbors & community,” said Alison Whitner, Lodge Trustee and coordinator of the event.  The Hyannis Elks plan to host the event again and hope to see everyone that came this year, again next year!
