Boston Magazine Names Barnstable A 'Top Place To Live'

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable was named a 2022 "Top Place to Live," by Boston Magazine, in its upcoming issue.

Every year, Boston Magazine's "Top Places to Live" showcases New England's most coveted communities. The magazine breaks down the current real-estate market into a guide featured in the March issue.

The most recent "Top Places to Live" names 18 communities as Top Places to Live – examining each based on current trends, values, tax rates, and education systems.

Barnstable was recognized under the headline "The Great Cape Escape," as homeowners relocated to the summer vacation destination year-round, with the COVID-19 pandemic offering more opportunities for Cape Codders to work remotely.

"While there’s no place that has 'something for everyone,'" the magazine wrote. "Barnstable comes pretty close. The Cape’s largest town, it includes several villages within its 60 square miles—each with distinct personalities. Like being in the center of everything? Try the Kennedys’ favorite vacation spot, Hyannis."

According to the magazine, the median single-family home price in Barnstable is $570,050, with a residential property tax rate of $8.64.
