Brief Cape Cod Standoff Under Investigation
An armed person "experiencing a known mental health crisis" stopped their car in Eastham, prompting a short standoff with police.
EASTHAM, MA — A person experiencing what officials are calling a "mental health crisis" was safely taken into custody after a short interaction with police in Eastham.
Around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, the Eastham Police Department responded to the scene of a stopped vehicle to assist Massachusetts State Police officials.
State police said the car was being driven by someone who was "experiencing a known mental health crisis."

The person had stopped the car in Eastham, and the driver exited the car brandishing a firearm, police said. State and local police surrounded the person and, after a short standoff, they were taken into custody.
An investigation by state police officials is ongoing.
