Brockton Murder Suspect Apprehended On Cape Cod

One of two people charged with murder in a Brockton restaurant shooting was arraigned on Tuesday after being arrested in Hyannis.

HYANNIS, MA — One of two people arraigned on murder charges stemming from a Brockton shooting was arrested in Hyannis this week.

Jamal Bazile, 18, of Brockton, pleaded not guilty to murder, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and discharge of a firearm.

These charges stem from a Friday shooting at Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet in which 22-year-old Joe Araujo was killed, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said.

An investigation into the shooting identified the "distinct jacket and sneakers" that Bazile was wearing. He was seen on restaurant footage dropping a to-go box and pulling out a firearm, shooting Araujo three times and hitting him twice, police alleged.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Bazile and another man, Nathan Veiga. A search of Veiga's home resulted in the finding of the jacket Bazile was wearing, police said.

Bazile was eventually found at a home in Hyannis on Monday. He was taken into custody after "becoming combative and assaulting police officers," officials said.

During his arrest, officials said he had a firearm and ammunition on his person.

Bazile and Veiga are being held without bail, and are scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 13 for a probable cause hearing.
