Cape Cod Drowning Victim Swept Out To Sea By Wave
Authorities say a "powerful wave" swept a 26-year-old Connecticut man out to sea Saturday.

TRURO, MA – A man who drowned off the coast of Truro Saturday was swept out to sea by a "powerful wave," according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney's office. Ross Williamson, 27, who the Boston Globe identified as a member of a Special Olympics swim team, was walking with his mother on Ballston Beach when he was swept out to sea.
Williamson's mother tried to save him but was knocked off her feet by the waves, according to the Globe.
"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Ross Williamson, a Special Olympics athlete from the state of Connecticut," a spokesperson for Special Olympics Massachusetts said in a statement. "We have reached out to our colleagues at Special Olympics Connecticut and will defer to their team for further comment."

Authorities searched for Williamson Saturday afternoon after receiving a report of a person in the water around 2:30 p.m. The search was suspended Saturday evening, and his body was found Sunday morning around 7:40 a.m.
Williamson, a Bolton, CT native, was "not a proficient swimmer and never went in the ocean due to the cold and the waves," District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said in a statement to the Globe.
