CHATHAM, MA — Coast Guard crews on Tuesday medevaced a fisherman near Monomoy Island.

The fisherman, aboard the "Godzilla III," had chest pain and was in need of "immediate" medical attention when the captain called the Coast Guard for help.

A Coast Guard boat met up with the fishing boat about 4 miles east of Monomoy and loaded the fisherman aboard. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived and hoisted the man aboard. He was flown to Barnstable for medical attention.

"The fishing boat's captain acted quickly, calmly, and made the prudent decision to reach out to the Coast Guard as soon as he recognized a medical emergency developing aboard his vessel," said Coast Guard Officer Kelly Zimmerman in a statement. "Safely getting this man to shore and the help he needed was a team effort."
