Cape Cod Infant Found Dead

Cape Cod authorities are investigating the death of an infant in Sandwich.

“Preliminary information indicates no obvious signs of trauma, but in any case of this nature, both the State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and manner of death,” the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Police said on Tuesday at about 6:45 a.m., they responded to a Sandwich residence for a report that the child was unresponsive. First responders attempted to revive the infant, who was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital at about 7:30 a.m.

Authorities said an autopsy has been scheduled.

No further details were released.
