Cape Cod Lacrosse Coach Charged With Statutory Rape

The 38-year-old was the head coach of the boys lacrosse program at Cape Cod Academy.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The now former head coach of the boys lacrosse program at Cape Cod Academy is facing two counts of aggravated statutory rape of a child, the Cape Cod Times reported. Richard Kovalsick, 38, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with accusations in Sandwich last fall.

Kovalsick, a Mashpee resident, pleaded not guilty to the rape charges and charges of enticing a child under 16, indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over and assisting a person under the age of 21 to purchase liquor. Bail was set at $75,000.

In a statement to the Cape Cod Times, Cape Cod Academy officials said the accusations do not involve students or other employees. Kovalsick was a seasonal employee and no longer works for Cape Cod Academy, according to the statement.
