The 25-year-old was forced to shoot a pit bull he was fostering after it repeatedly bit him while he was in bed, according to police.

YARMOUTH, MA – A Cape Cod man fatally shot a dog he was fostering after it attacked him while he was lying in bed, police said. The 25-year-old West Yarmouth man and his girlfriend were lying with the dog Sunday when it attacked and repeatedly bit him, according to police.

The attack happened around 6 p.m. on Woodbine Avenue. Emergency crews arrived to find the man with "severe" wounds to his left arm and the pit bull terrier, named Max, dead.

The man told police he used a 9mm gun in his nightstand to shoot the dog when it would not stop attacking him.
