Cape Cod Man Left Dogs In Car After Crash: Police

The 44-year-old is accused of taking a taxi from the scene and leaving the dogs alone for more than a day.

BARNSTABLE, MA – A Cape Cod man is accused of leaving his two dogs behind after crashing his car in Centerville Dec. 15. Truro resident Patrick Drummery, 44, pleaded not guilty last week to an animal cruelty charge, according to the Cape Cod Times. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol and submit to screenings.

Drummery's sister told police Dec. 16 that her brother was driving while intoxicated the day before and crashed his rental car with the two dogs inside, the Times reported. He then left the scene in a taxi, she told police.

Officers found the car on Main Street in Centerville. The police report stated that the dogs were inside, shaking and covered in their own feces, according to the Times. Drummery told police he had been drinking and left the car after the crash to walk to the beach, where he took a cab to the hospital.
