Cape Cod Hiker Rescued During New Hampshire Mountain Hike After Injury

A Cape Cod man suffered an injury near the summit of Middle Mountain over the weekend, but, with the help of officials, made it down safely.

NORTH CONWAY, NH — A Cape Cod man's weekend spent hiking in the New Hampshire mountains didn't go exactly as planned, officials said.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said Richard Fargo, 64, of Chatham, suffered an injury near the summit of Middle Mountain over the weekend, and needed assistance to make it down the trail.

Officials said Fargo left the parking area off of Thompson Road hiking by himself. Shortly after summiting on the Middle Mountain Trail, he sustained an injury and called for assistance.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, conservation officers responded to the call and, after several phone calls around 1:20 p.m., determined that he didn't need a full carry-out, just assistance getting off the trail.

Fargo and the conservation officers made it down at about 3:50 p.m., officials said.
