Cape Cod Officer Saves Woman Who Tried Cutting Own Throat

The woman tried slashing her throat while being questioned about stolen items at a nursing center, police said.

YARMOUTH, MA – A police officer on Cape Cod saved a woman who tried slashing her own throat with a shaving razor. Yarmouth police officer Paulo Cruz was sent to a nursing center at 10:50 a.m. Monday to interview a resident who was accused of stealing items from other residents.

While Cruz and the staff were speaking with the woman, she started crying, pulled the razor from her sweater pocket and started cutting her neck, police said. When Cruz pulled her hand away from her neck, she switched the razor to her other hand and began scraping her neck again, according to police.

Cruz grabbed her other hand while staff members grabbed the razor. The woman was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor cuts and scrapes and mental health assistance, police said.
