Cape Cod Police Find 1st Confirmed Bobcat In This Town

Police on Cape Cod will transfer the animal to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for testing. Here's what to know.

WELLFLEET, MA — Police in one Cape Cod town have confirmed the death of a bobcat this week.

The Wellfleet Police Department said they received a call for a dead cat on Chequessett Neck Road on Monday. But it wasn't a cat they found.

However, during the identification process by an animal control officer and representatives from the Massachusetts Audubon Society, officials determined that it was actually a bobcat.

Police said it's believed to be the first confirmed report of a bobcat in Wellfleet.

The bobcat will be transferred to biologists from The United States Department of Agriculture for testing, officials said.
