Cape Cod Police Officer Hit By Car While Working Traffic Detail

A Yarmouth police officer was taken to a Boston area hospital after being hit by a car on Tuesday. He was alert but suffered injuries.

YARMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod police officer is alert but injured after being hit by a car while working a traffic detail on Tuesday morning.

Yarmouth Police and fire crews responded to Route 28 near Rosemary Lane after a Yarmouth police fraffic officer was struck by a car while working a detail, officials said. The crash closed a stretch of Route 28 "between Giardino's and Timmy's Roast Beef," officials said.

The officer was in the roadway wearing high-visibility clothing at the time he was struck. The driver of the vehicle that hit him remained on the scene while police investigated, officials said.

A Boston area hospital is now caring for the officer, who was alert when he was transported there but did suffer unknown injuries, officials said.

Yarmouth Police are still investigating the crash with the assistance of the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction unit and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
