Cape Cod Police Officer Runs Over Man in 'Tragic' New Year's Incident
The man, who died, was identified as Garrett Gagne, 22, of Londmeadow.

A Chatham police officer responding to an emergency call early Thursday morning ran over a man who was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Garrett Gagne, 22, of Longmeadow.
Police said Gagne was lying in the middle of Crowell Road when he was run over at about 4 a.m. Authorities said it was immediately unclear why he was in the road or what his medical condition was in the moments leading up to the crash.

Chatham police called it a “tragic accident.”

They said Gagne was in Chatham to celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends.
“Those associates could not be reached or located immediately after the accident,” Chatham police said in a statement. “The investigation is continuing into identifying and locating the whereabouts of the victim’s friends.”
Gagne played lacrosse at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., according to FOX 25.
The police officer’s name was not immediately released.
