Police Warn Of Sean Gannon Fund Scam

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable police said scammers over recent days have committed one of the more heartless frauds imaginable — soliciting donations in the name of fallen Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon. Gannon was shot and killed earlier this month. His funeral was Wednesday.

Police said the scammers are claiming to raise money for the "Sean Gannon Find." The scam phone numbers were identified as 508-418-0669, 508-418-0431 and 508-418-0979, police said.

Yarmouth police said they were "disappointed" over the scam.

"There are no active phone solicitations being conducted to raise money," Yarmouth police said in a statement.

There are two legitimate fundraisers for Gannon. One on GoFundMe had raised more than $190,000 as of Saturday night. Yarmouth police also organized a fundraiser on their website.
