Cape Cod School Bus Crash: 8 Students Hurt

Eight students and their school bus driver were hurt in a crash in Yarmouth, police said.

YARMOUTH, MA — Eight students and their school bus driver were hurt in a crash in Yarmouth Monday, according to police. The crash happened on Station Avenue at about 4 p.m. when the driver of a sport utility slammed into the rear of the bus, police said. The SUV driver, a 54-year-old Yarmouthport woman, was charged with "failing to use care in stopping." Her name was not released.

The children and driver suffered minor injuries, police said. There were 14 other students aboard the bus who were not hurt, police said.

The crash happened near Stop & Shop as the bus slowed down for a stop sign, police said. The woman was driving a Chevrolet Equinox, police said.

"(She) did not recognize and react in time to avoid the collision and was issued a citation for failing to use care in stopping," Yarmouth police said in a statement.
