Cape Man Caught Trafficking 3,000 Grams Of Fentanyl: Police

Yarmouth police said they seized 3,000 grams of fentanyl, which is enough to kill more than 1.5 million people.

YARMOUTH, MA — A South Yarmouth man was arrested after police said he was caught with more than 3,000 grams of fentanyl. Dustin Monick, 22, was charged with trafficking fentanyl in excess of 200 grams, possession of class A and B substance with intent to distribute, failure to stop for police, speeding and failure to stop at a red light. The amount of fentanyl seized was enough to kill more than 1.5 million people, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Around 7 p.m. Friday, police said they pulled over Monick for a traffic violation. At first, Monick stopped the car, but then drove away and led officers on a brief chase, according to police.

Police said Monick threw a backpack out the wind during the chase, but the officers found it. The backpack was searched, and police said they found more than 600 grams of fentanyl, other various illegal drugs and over $3,000 in cash.

Later, police said they searched a storage container Monick was renting and found more drugs and money. Between the two searches, police said they seized more than 3,000 grams of fentanyl and over $100,000 in cash.

Monick was arraigned at Barnstable District Court Monday and is being held on $250,000 bail.
