Capsized Kayak Found Off Cape Cod; Search Launched

YARMOUTH, MA — A capsized kayak was discovered Monday in Yarmouth's Bass River, triggering a search involving the Coast Guard. The kayak was found flipped over with someone's belongings inside, officials said. The boat's owner later called in and claimed the craft, according to the Coast Guard.

Authorities launched a search involving a Coast Guard helicopter crew, a Coast Guard boat and local harbormasters.

The kayak had no identifying information on it. The Coast Guard urges all kayakers to label their craft with names and phone numbers, as searches are launched when washed up kayaks are discovered.
