Car Break-Ins Prompt Barnstable Investigation

Several break-ins have been reported in Hyannis and Centerville. Here's what police recommend residents do to avoid them.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A number of car break-ins over the past few days have prompted a police investigation in Barnstable.

Officials shared that "several" break-ins were reported in the Centerville and Hyannis areas.

"If you are a victim and have not reported it yet or if you have any video from your residents in the late night or early morning hours the past few days that you feel may assist officers in identifying the suspect(s), please call 508-778-3874," police said.

"Resident's are also reminded that if you find that your vehicle has been broken into, please call the police department immediately and do not touch the vehicle or anything inside to help preserve any fingerprints or evidence that the suspect(s) may have left behind."

Police are also recommending that residents implement what they're calling the "9PM Routine" which includes using that time to double-check if your home and vehicle are locked, all valuables are removed from that vehicle and turn any outside lights on.
