Car Burst Into Flames Outside Barnstable Home

Firefighters put the flames out before they could spread to the garage of the West Barnstable home.

WEST BARNSTABLE, MA — A car burst into flames outside a West Barnstable Home Tuesday morning, and firefighters were able to extinguish it before it spread to the house.

Firefighters arrived at the High Street home just before 7:15 a.m. They had three firefighters on scene in under 8 minutes, and had the fire out quickly, Chief Joe Maruca said.

According to Maruca, the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.

"From our perspective, it was a successful operation," Maruca said. "The problem with car fires is once they get started, they're (the cars) destroyed in the first moments. Our main concern was it didn't spread to the garage."

No injuries were reported during the fire.
