Copier Ozone Leak Closed Centerville Elementary
The odor closed Centerville Elementary school and sent two staff members to the hospital.

A leaking copier that needed servicing closed Centerville Elementary School Wednesday morning after 10 a.m.
Massachusetts' Haz Mat team was called in Wednesday to investigate a "strong sweet" odor that caused the evacuation and closure of Centerville Elementary School, according to a C-O-MM press release.
Two Centerville Elementary staff members were taken to Cape Cod Hospital after reporting symptoms of headache, difficulty breathing and nausea. Four students were evaluated on the scene, but were not transported, according to incident commander Captain Brady Rogers.

At 10:06 a.m., a "strong sweet" odor was reported at the school. Preliminary tests determined it was not carbon monoxide or gas and oxygen levels were normal.
Twenty-five personnel from C-O-MM, Hyannis and Cotuit Fire Departments and Barnstable Police were called into help assist at the scene.

Students were transported to the South Congregational Church as part of an emergency evacuation plan. Parents were notified immediately and were able to pick-up children.
The Town of Barnstable Board of Health, County Board of Health and Department of Environmental Protection were notified as a precaution.
