Child Injured By 'Unknown Projectile' At Barnstable Playground: Police

Police said the 7-year-old was briefly hospitalized Thursday after they were struck by a possible BB.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A 7-year-old child was hospitalized Thursday when they were struck by a possible BB while at a Barnstable playground, police said.

Barnstable police responded to the playground in the area of Mary Dunn Road and Independence Drive shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving reports of a child who had been struck in the leg with an unknown projectile.

The child was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of an entry and exit wound on their shin. After treatment, the child was released from the hospital and is expected to fully recover, police said.

Following the incident, investigators searched the area and determined the child may have been struck by a BB from a BB gun.
