Crooked Cape Cod Contractor Arrested: Police

Jeffrey Fregeau is wanted for scamming a Cape Cod family out of $15,000, police said. His criminal record includes 91 charges.

YARMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod contractor accused of scamming a family out of $15,000 was arrested Thursday, according to police. Jeffrey Fregeau, 58, was charged with larceny and held without bail, police said. Police said he has 91 criminal charges on his record.

Fregeau was recently operating "Old Mill Remodeling," an unlicensed home-building company, police said. He promised to perform $15,000 worth of work for a Yarmouth family but failed to do so, police said.

"Fregeau is well-known to Cape Cod Law Enforcement and has a long record with over 91 prior criminal charges in Massachusetts," Yarmouth police said in a statement. "Fregeau has been the subject of several other criminal investigations involving the similar scheme of accepting money for remodeling work and not finishing the jobs in various towns on Cape Cod."

Yarmouth police said they received numerous tips after posting Fregeau's wanted photo on their Facebook page. He was arrested Thursday at about 7 a.m. at a Yarmouth residence, police said.

"Thanks again to all who provided information and helped us capture a wanted person," Yarmouth police said in a statement.
