Drunken Man Saved From Cape Cod Waters: Police

Police said the man fell in while washing his clothes in Hyannis Harbor early Sunday morning.

HYANNIS, MA — A drunken man was pulled from the water off Hyannis Harbor early Sunday morning, police said. A witness called police around 2 a.m. and said a man at the Ocean Street docks was stumbling around trying to do his laundry in the harbor.

Officers arrived and found a pile of laundry on the dock and a man clinging to the floating pier, according to police. Police said the man had spent several minutes trying to yell for help. He was in water up to his neck when officers found him, police said.

The man, identified as a 57-year-old Hyannis resident, was conscious and breathing. He also appeared to be "heavily intoxicated" and told officers he was trying to wash his clothes when he tumbled off the dock, police said.
