The Barnstable County Council for Children Youth and Families will be hosting it's 8th Annual Youth Summit at Barnstable High School on March 18 from 7 am to 1 pm.
Barnstable County will be presented with the "100 Best Communities for Young People" award by Jordan LaPier, Senior Director with America's Promise Alliance.
Siobhan Magnus will be honored with the Community Youth Champion Award.

The morning summit includes 5 workshops, one of which is a panel discussion with the OxyContin/Heroin commission. The panel includes State Senators Dan Wolf and Steve Tolman, State Senate President Therese Murray, Representatives from the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe, Director & CEO of Gosnold Ray Tamasi, and community philanthropist & parent Trudy Avery.
Other workshops include Community Drum Circle, Get Involved (Volunteer opportunities on Cape Cod), Be an Active Bystander (Mentors for Violence Prevention), and Fun and Safe Places (Discussion with several organizations)
