Fire At Hyannis Multifamily Home Displaces 6 Residents
The stairwell filled with smoke, forcing a mother and her child to escape through a second floor window, fire officials said.
HYANNIS, MA — Six people were displaced Sunday after a multifamily home caught fire in Hyannis.
Just before 5 p.m., firefighters were called to 209 Iyannough Road. Fire officials said the fire started outside the building, but the flames quickly spread to inside the home.
The stairwell filled with smoke, forcing a mother and her child to escape through a second floor window, fire officials said. Witnesses and Barnstable police helped the family make it safely to the ground.

Paramedics evaluated the child and mother, but neither needed to be taken to the hospital, fire officials said.
Firefighters extinguished the flames in under 20 minutes, but the damage forced residents to find temporary housing. The American Red Cross helped displaced residents find shelter for the time being, fire officials said.
