BARNSTABLE, MA — Today is free cone day at Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops.
The Ben & Jerry's shop in Hyannis at 352 Main St. is participating in the promotion, which runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Ben & Jerry's shop at Hy-Line Cruises in Hyannis is closed until May.

Ben & Jerry's also has shops in Eastham, Braintree, Cambridge, and Boston that are participating in the promotion, which started in 1979.
“It was our way of thanking everyone for all the love and support they showed us that first year of business in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vt.,” the company said in a statement.
