BARNSTABLE, MA — Local elections in Barnstable are less than a month away, and Patch is determined to help residents get to know their candidates for council and school committee.

Patch has sent candidate questionnaires to each of the candidates that will appear on the ballot in a contested race for each of those positions.

Charlie Bloom is running for a seat on the Town Council in Precinct 9. His campaign is focused primarily on one issue: Preventing the urbanization of Hyannis.

My cousin, Nik Atsalis, is finishing his term as a Town Councilor.

No

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I want to prevent the urbanization of Hyannis.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

My opponent is pleased with the urbanization of Hyannis. I am not.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Create affordable housing for working people. Insuring clean water flows from our faucets. Promote a functioning Town Council where all members work together in the open with dignity and without conflict.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

My entire 40-year career.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Keep your cool.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I will not be looking to find another job by using my position as a Town Councilor. I will not be doing the bidding of wealthy developers.
