Health Care Clinic Reopens On Cape, While Another Shutters
The Orleans walk-in center of Cape Cod Healthcare will soon be ready to see patients, while another clinic shuts down.

CAPE COD, MA — Walk-in, urgent medical care clinics have become a staple on the Cape, and while one recently shut down, another is preparing to open for the season.
Cape Cod Healthcare’s clinic in Orleans, at 42 Route 6A, will reopen May 18, according to a news release Thursday.
The urgent care center operates each summer, along with five year-round Cape Cod Healthcare clinics in Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis, Plymouth and Sandwich.

Each provides walk-in care for minor injuries and illnesses, and performs common procedures such as X-rays and intravenous administration.
The Orleans clinic responds to the influx of people who visit the Cape between Memorial Day and the end of summer.

Cape Cod Healthcare recently shuttered another seasonal clinic, at 770 Main St. in the Barnstable village of Osterville. That site will become the home of a CCHC office for orthopedic surgery.
Such changes aren’t unusual.
The Cape has a highly seasonal, transient population, which can make it difficult for health care providers to plan on who will need care and when.
The pop-up clinics have helped, but Cape Cod Healthcare – the largest medical provider on the peninsula – is trying to fine-tune its response.
The six clinics, soon including the Orleans site, are open seven days a week.
“Our urgent care centers deliver the kind of expert, efficient care patients need – right when they need it,” said Michael Hall, chief of emergency medicine at Cape Cod Hospital, in a statement.
With about 5,000 employees and 600 providers, Cape Cod Healthcare is a network that includes Cape Cod Hospital, Falmouth Hospital and numerous practices and services.
