Hot Mic Moment Has Cape Cod Official In Hot Water
A lengthy discussion about a pump station and a cranberry bog led one official to their wit's end, resulting in the remark caught on tape.
YARMOUTH, MA — A Select Board member on Cape Cod has issued a public apology after a an utterance at the end of a lengthy meeting was caught on a hot mic.
A recent Yarmouth Select Board meeting featured a special town meeting vote regarding the location of a pump station near the existing Fresh From the Vine cranberry bog and farm stand.
At the end of the lengthy meeting, Select Board member Joyce Flynn could be heard muttering "God, I'm sick of these people."

Flynn issued the public apology in part because viewers and residents confused her voice for Town Clerk Mary Maslowski, who was overseeing the vote count.
"I would like to apologize to Yarmouth residents for a remark I made near the end of the Monday, December 9th Special Town Meeting," Flynn wrote.

She continued:
"In frustration when someone shouted an objection to hand counting the votes, I made an unguarded comment. My voice was caught on video and misidentified as that of our Town Clerk, Mary Maslowski, who was overseeing the vote count.
I want to clarify that the remark was made by me and not Ms. Maslowski and I apologize for my expression of impatience.
I remain committed to serving the residents of Yarmouth and ensuring our meetings are spaces where everyone feels valued and heard."
The pump station is part of Yarmouth's $207 million wastewater project. Town officials published a video to discuss the project, which can be seen below:
